Bereavement is the experience of losing someone close or important to you.
It’s often characterised by “grief”, the process and range of emotions we go through as we gradually adjust to the loss
Bereavement affects everyone in many different ways, and it’s possible to experience a range of different emotions.
There is no right or wrong way to feel. Feelings of grief can also happen because of other types of loss or changes in circumstances, for example:
- relationship breakups
- the loss of a job
- the failure of a company
- moving away to a new location
