What is stress
Stress is easy to feel but hard to define. It usually represents a feeling of “pressure” brought about by events or expectations but there is no strict medical definition.
You can’t simply stop being stressed, and likely wouldn’t really want to if you could, as it’s part of a normal life. It can become unhelpful, however, and begin driving you toward negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Over a long enough time, chronic stress can also take a physical toll on your body and negatively impact your physical health.
It’s also likely to worsen the effects of existing mental health issue such as depression or anxiety and conversely, mental health issue are can cause increased stress.
