"A few words about me and how I got into counselling. Firstly, I qualified as a Counsellor in 2019 and have the Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, accredited with the National Counselling Society. I am primarily a person centred therapist, where I will help you to explore your issues, feelings, thoughts and beliefs and support you to develop greater self-awareness and personal independence. I've had counselling at various points in life (even when I thought I didn't need it) and the experiences have been so valuable, I can honestly say, I believe in the value of therapy. But I can also use an integrative approach based on your current needs. This means using different types of therapy and adapting techniques to suit you. For example, It may be that anxiety is a current issue, so we can talk about how it is currently affecting you, but it may also be helpful to talk about and understand what anxiety is and how it can present, as well as talking through relaxation techniques if appropriate. I spent all of my year 3 counselling placement supporting teenagers and adults within a University Technical College and was very lucky to be employed by the college for a time following this. I was privileged to work with all of my clients, including neuro diverse teenagers e.g. with autism, ADHD and other learning disabilities and have a good knowledge of carers, from being a carer for nearly 14 years with my own son, to spending time with young carers. I have always recognised the value of healing therapies and this gave me the drive and real passion to train as a counsellor and support others. Which I enjoy doing so much."
